The Frame is a proposed museum and film and arts precinct located in Newport, Victoria. Fast and slow movement is used to frame collective memory throughout The Frame, as seen through an arcade, museum, rooftop bar, drive-in cinema and various retail and cafe's. Newport is defined as a transit suburb masked by its industrial aesthetic. The site experiences a lack of interaction despite the communities deep background in collective memory in media, film and art. The existing Substation is part of the performance and arts precinct in the area and lacks adequate support from surrounding programs.
Introducing "The Frame". Our solution is looking beyond industrial heritage, tying together fast and slow circulation inspired from existing site conditions and film and media collective memory to define key moments throughout The Frame. The framework of our proposal ensures the needs of a carpark are met. The carpark situated at the far north side to ensure accessibility to the train station. This also doubles up as a drive in cinema which activates activity during the day and night inviting people into the framework including an arcade, rooftop bar, museum and various retail and cafe's.
